It primarily targets economically weaker sections (EWS), scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), and other marginalized rural families who do not own a permanent house.

Launch & Implementation:
PMAY-G was introduced on 1st April 2016, replacing the earlier Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY). The scheme is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Rural Development and state governments, using funds shared between the Central and State governments in a 60:40 ratio (for plain areas) and 90:10 ratio (for hilly and northeastern states).
